Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD)
The Tasmanian Devil have been endangered mostly because of Devil Facial Tumour Disease (Also known as DFTD). It is a terrible disease. It is facial cancer spread by biting. Very contagious. For example, if a devil with DFTD ate a dead animal and another devil ate the same animal, that 2nd devil is now likely to have DFTD. This disease has been around for about since 1996. The devils' population has decreased over 80%! Fortunately, many people kindly donated and volunteered to help the Tasmanian Devil, but your help matters. You can see how you can help in my 'How can you help?' post. Please help these poor creatures!

More information about Tasmanian Devil
Tasmanian devils are almost always black and have white spots around its chest. They are about 30 cm in length and can weigh up to 12 kg. They are marsupials so the females carry their youngs in their pouches. Tasmanian Devil pretty much eats anything and they eat 5-10 % of their body weight each day! (If a Devil weighs 10 kg, they will eat about 1 kg per DAY.) Thylacines (or also known as Tasmanian Tiger) used to hunt Tasmanian Devils, but now they're extinct. Large birds hunt young devils in the day and large nocturnal animals hunt the young devils at night. If the adult devils are really, really desperate, they might even eat the young Tasmanian Devils! Adult devils don't have any predators.
